Blank PCBs

What is a Blank PCB?

A blank PCB is simply a circuit board that hasn’t yet been assembled with electronic components. It forms the essential foundation for any functioning circuit board.

Blank PCBs are often called copper-clad boards because they feature a thin layer of copper across their surface. This copper layer is critical, as it enables the efficient flow of electricity once the board is populated with components.

What Are Blank PCBs Used For?

A blank printed circuit board serves as the base onto which electronic components and parts are mounted and soldered. If you have the tools, equipment, and expertise to handle your own PCB assembly, a blank PCB provides the perfect starting point, a “blank canvas” for bringing your designs to life.

At ABL Circuits, we have been manufacturing and supplying high-quality blank PCBs for nearly 40 years. Our boards are used across a wide range of industries, including aviation, motor racing, stage sound, and commercial lighting.

What Are Blank PCBs Made Of?

Although often called “copper-clad,” blank PCBs are not made entirely of copper. The copper layer provides excellent electrical conductivity and heat resistance, but the board itself is built from a combination of materials to ensure durability and stability. Common base materials include fiberglass, silicon, or epoxy resins, which add strength, flexibility, and resistance to heat, moisture, and corrosion.
